Alice Gail Hanna

March 3, 1951, to December 30, 2023

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Alice Gail (Parcell) Titlow Hanna, 72, of West Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Dunbar, West Virginia.  She passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at her residence at Friendship House in West Lafayette, Indiana.

She was born March 3, 1951, in South Charleston, West Virginia to the late Corliss “Sam” and Virginia L. (Tyo) Parcell. She was a 1969 graduate of Dunbar High School in Dunbar, West Virginia and continued her education at Beckley College in Beckley, West Virginia.  She worked at Sallie Mae in the Loan Processing Center in Herndon, Virginia, was a Director of the Head Start children’s program in South Charleston West Virginia, and a Nursing Assistant at the Dunbar Nursing Home, in Dunbar, West Virginia. However, the career she was most proud of was that of a mother and grandmother.  Gail married William Edward Titlow in 1970.

Gail loved the Lord and was a member of Brown United Methodist Church in Tyler Mountain, West Virginia and Calvary United Methodist Church in Dunbar, West Virginia. She also attended church at Friendship House.  She volunteered her time as the Vocation Bible School Director, sang in the choir, and enjoyed attending Bible Study.

Another love of her life was watching soap operas, and she always joked that Victor Newman was her TV boyfriend.  Above all, she cherished time with her family and friends and loved to eat southern food.

She is survived by her 3 children, Samuel T. Hanna, of Johnson City, Tennessee, Brian E. (wife Krista) Titlow of West Lafayette, Indiana, Alicia (husband Daniel) Barry of Edwards, CO; 7 grandchildren, Avery Davis, Abigail Titlow, Nathaniel Titlow, Konnor Hixson, Michaela Hixson, Danielle Barry, and Charlie Barry; and a sister, Jayne Sigmon of Carolina Shores, North Carolina.

Along with her parents, Corliss “Sam” and Virginia L. (Tyo) Parcell, she was preceded in death by her 3 other siblings, Karen Gothard, John Parcell, and Phillip Parcell.

Memorial contributions in Gail’s name may be given to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box #91891, Washington, D.C. 20090 – 1891, or at www.nationalmssociety.org or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or at www.stjude.org.

A Memorial Service will be held on June 8, 2024, in Dunbar, West Virginia.
